Jeffrey Zeldman recently posted an interesting article titled “Let There Be Web Divisions”. The age-old question for higher education professionals has been what is the best reporting structure for the web team. Should they report through IT or Marketing, or perhaps some hybrid model? My answer has always been “none of the above”. The web team should report directly to senior management. The web is unique and doesn’t fit neatly under the IT or marketing umbrella, even more so with the growth of the social web.
