uwebd - the social network for higher education web professionals

Yes, uwebd – the social network for higher education web professionals turns 3 today. It was on December 13, 2007 that the site was launched on Ning. There was considerable debate back then about the viability of such a site, but I felt strongly that this whole social networking thing would be around a while, and that the willingness of higher ed web folks to share and contribute would help the site reach critical mass.

IMHO – the site has been a great success. As of today, we have 3,580 members from over 60 countries. There are thousands of discussions both in the main forum and in the discussion areas for the 76 groups on the site. The site is seeing approximately 12,000 unique visitors and 50,000 page views per month.  And the site continues to grow with approximately 100 new members per month.

I’d like to personally thank everyone who has contributed, especially those who were there in the early days when we were just getting the site off the ground.  I would also like to thank the fine folks at OmniUpdate for their continued support of the site, and for providing free uwebd mugs for eligible members.

I look forward to the continued growth of uwebd.  I have many ideas on how we can move the site forward which I hope to implement in the coming year. And as always, please send along your ideas on how we can improve the site.
